Matt Cameron is the Director of Policy and Government Affairs at SoFi, a member-centric, one-stop shop for digital financial services on a mission to help people achieve financial independence to realize their ambitions. Most recently, he was the Head of Policy and Regulatory Affairs at Remitly Global, Inc., a publicly traded fintech specializing in cross-border financial services, where he led the company’s public policy and government affairs strategy. Before joining Remitly, Matt was a Manager of Public Policy at Amazon and worked on issues related to payments, innovation, and the emerging regulatory landscape. Prior to Amazon, he served as the Head of Financial Services Policy at Notarize, a fintech startup, where he advocated for solutions to advance digitization in financial services.
With over a decade of experience in the executive and legislative branches of the U.S. government, Matt is an expert in consumer finance and banking policy. He spent over nine years at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) in various leadership roles, culminating in his position as the CFPB’s Assistant Director for the Office of Stakeholder Management, which served as the Bureau’s liaison to elected officials, consumer advocates, and industry to gather input, build partnerships, and inform its work. Before his tenure at the CFPB, Matt worked in the personal office of a senior member of Congress from California and began his career as an intern for a U.S. Senator from New York.
In addition to his professional roles, Matt is deeply engaged in shaping the future of financial services policy and has published opinion pieces in American Banker and MarketWatch. He is a member of the board of the Exchequer Club of Washington, DC and has served on the boards of the Money Services Business Association (MSBA), the Financial Technology Association (FTA), the SPARK Institute, and the Milken Institute’s Fintech Advisory Council.
