Bimal Patel, Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions, U.S. Department of the Treasury, will be our guest speaker at the Exchequer Club meeting on Wednesday, May 20, 2020.

Bimal Patel was sworn in as Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Financial Institutions on June 27, 2019. Previously, Mr. Patel served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Financial Stability Oversight Council.

Mr. Patel is responsible for leading policy formulation on financial institutions, insurance, financial technology, cybersecurity and critical infrastructure protection, financial stability, and financial regulation.

Prior to joining Treasury, Mr. Patel was a Partner and Head of the Financial Advisory and Regulation Practice in the Washington, D.C., and New York offices of O’Melveny & Myers LLP. From 2012 to 2015, Mr. Patel served as Senior Advisor to Director Jeremiah O. Norton on the Board of Directors of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. Mr. Patel also taught an undergraduate course on banking regulation for several years at Stanford University, where he was an Adjunct Associate Professor.

Mr. Patel holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Political Science from Stanford University, a Master in Public Policy from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, and a Juris Doctor from the Georgetown University Law Center.
